More praise and fame for Gravity, this time from Bolivia Footprint November 2008:

" Gravity Assisted Mountain Biking. (Page 96, Listings) Av. 16 de Julio 1490, Edificio Avenida, PB, Of. 10 (across the hall from America Tours), T. 2-231-3849, www.gravitybolivia.com. A wide variety of mountain biking tours throughout Bolivia, including the famous downhill ride to Coroico and the Ghost Ride” to a haunted castle. Also offers more challenging rides, including technical single-track and high speed abandoned dirt roads, complete with coaching and all the safety equipment needed. Highly professional and recommended. Quality book exchange, sells new and used guidebooks, and gives a free T-shirt with every ride. Often full so worth booking on their web site in advance."

NEW RIDE: The Ghost Ride: Overview and a Short Video.
UPDATE: After extensive testing, Gravity has launched the "Next Big Thing," the GHOST RIDE. This awesome, incredible, spectacular -- and spo-o-o-o-ky -- downhill ride follows abandoned (forsaken?) and infrequently used dirt roads through stunning scenery. Lots of opportunities for playing on the bike, and not so many massive scary drops off the side... but plenty of scary stories along the way! This ride was invented by Gravity (as was the WMDR), and visiting the castle ("El Castillo") is EXCLUSIVE to Gravity clients. The ride is ideal for anyone with a bit of riding experience who is willing to listen to instruction and coaching, give it a go… and who wants to get off the tourist trap trail. It has proven to be especially popular as a second ride for folks who LOVED The World's Most Dangerous Road and want to try something a bit more challenging, and who want to learn more about riding. (Ask about our special "repeat offender" discount). It's also for those who feel The World's Most Dangerous Road is a bit too popular, and who want to do something even more brag-worthy. This ride is available EVERY day that we can form a group of four or more riders, so contact us in advance by email to set a date and form a group. We have extensive information booklets that contain lots of photos of the ride at our office and in the offices of our authorised agencies. If you would like an idea of what the Ghost Ride involves check out the video at right as filmed on one of our first rides down it. For more information about "El Castillo" visit their site... if you are brave enough, book a night or two there for after the ride.

BEHIND THE SCENES: GRAVITY'S INCREDIBLE INFRASTRUCTURE.

GREAT NEWS:

In addition to the 30 brand new 2008 Kona Coiler (Special Edition: Garbanzo Park Bikes) that arrived late 2008 and are now happily rumbling down the road we have also received 30 2008 Kona Stinky's. These incredible bikes all feature the latest technology in Marzocchi front suspension, Hayes hydraulic disc brakes, awesome downhill specific tires from Intense and much, much more. There honestly aren't better rental bikes available in all of Latin America! The addition of these bikes to our already-extensive fleet of full-suspension Kona mountain bikes means we are able to run more simultaneous trips to more of our great rides than ever before!!

Please REMEMBER it is always worth booking online through this site to guarantee a space. When we receive your reservation we will contact you with all the details you need to enjoy the trip.

It's not just about the bike... It's also about Gravity's professional maintenance, quality equipment, extensive support and infrastructure, and highly qualified mechanics and guides. For a peek behind the curtain to what goes on in the morning before we pick you up to go on your ride, check out the video below... we think you'll be VERY surprised!

DON'T LISTEN TO US! LISTEN TO THESE GUYS!

A couple of independent comments to keep you on track: The brand new (and in-stock at the Gravity office) Lonely Planet South America on a Shoestring (10th Edition, March 2007) guide book recommends Gravity and says: "Many other outfits on Sagárnaga offer the La Cumbre to Coroico trip for a few bucks less [than Gravity] but consider what corners are being cut before you go plunging downhill" pg. 193. We couldn't have said it better ourselves! Interestingly, this edition of the guide book also dedicates a whole "boxed text" to the issue of the dangers of going with cut-priced operators down The World's Most Dangerous Road. For your edification we have included it here. We are guessing that the fact that LP recommends us means they count us as a "quality company" and not one of the "less than ideal" ones!:
DEADLY TREADLIES:
Many agencies offering the La Cumbre to Coroico mountain bike plunge give travelers T-shirts plastered with: "I've survived the World's Most Dangerous Road." Keep in mind, the gravel road is just that: it's narrow (just over 3.2m wide) and has precipitous cliffs up to 600m... and there's traffic. At the time of research, eight people (higher figures sometimes quoted) have died doing the 64km trip (with a 3600m vertical drop) and readers have reported close encounters and nasty accidents. Most of these are due to little or no instruction and preparation, and poor quality mountain bikes (beware bogus rebranded bikes). In short, many agencies are less than ideal. Be aware of outfits which deflate prices - cost cutting can mean dodgy brakes, poor quality parts and literally, a deadly treadly. Multilingual guides are necessary for coaching and control. Ask agencies for proof of rescue equipment (rope rescue, harnesses, belays, oxygen), and a pre-departure briefing. Ensure a quality company on this spectacular route before you freewheel your life away.

Also check out the reviews below, these are JUST SOME OF THE HUNDREDS of rave reviews from indepenent sources we have received in the last 10+ years! No other company in Bolivia can lay claim to this level of independent and verifiable praise!

"Top tours with excellent bikes and guides ... definitely the most highly recommended"
        Footprint Bolivia, November 2004

        "Easily the safest option…
        top-class guides …
        world-class bikes …"

On The Hill (UK), March 2002

        "La Paz's top agency"
Dallas Morning News, April 4, 2004

        "highly regarded"
        Lonely Planet South America, 2004

        "highly professional"
        Footprint South American Handbook, 2003

        "best reputation"
        Rough Guide Bolivia, 2002

        "The original and best downhill
        mountain-bike operator"

The Rough Guide to South America, 2004

        recommended bicycle tour

That's right -- despite all this praise, we haven't fallen asleep at the wheel ... we are busting a gut to become even better! We won't bore you with too many details... nor let the cat out of the bag ... but more and more improvements are on their way!
