More Than a Ride: How Gravity Bolivia is Transforming Smiles Along the Death Road

The Death Road (North Yungas Road) in Bolivia is legendary. It’s a bucket-list destination for adrenaline seekers and mountain biking enthusiasts from across the globe. But for us at Gravity Bolivia, these mountains represent much more than a steep descent through the clouds. They are home to vibrant, resilient communities that have welcomed us for decades.

As we kick off 2026, we decided our first major expedition of the year wouldn’t be about breaking speed records, but about giving back. To celebrate the Festivity of the Three Kings (Reyes), our team traded their full-face helmets for sacks of joy, embarking on a mission of Social Responsibility in the heart of the Yungas.

Starting the Year with Purpose: Education and Joy

While the world was recovering from New Year’s celebrations, the Gravity crew was busy loading support vehicles. Our destination? The small, remote schools and villages that dot the route of the Death Road.

Dressed in our iconic Gravity Tour shirts, we visited several communities to deliver:

  1. Christmas Gifts: Bringing the magic of the holiday season to children in areas where resources are often scarce.

  2. Essential School Supplies: Providing notebooks, pens, and backpacks to ensure every child is ready for the upcoming school year.

Why Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Matters in Tourism

Tourism in Bolivia shouldn’t just be about the traveler; it should be a catalyst for local development. By integrating social responsibility into our core values, we ensure that the income generated by international visitors directly supports the education and well-being of the next generation of Bolivians living along our routes.

The Spirit of “Reyes” in the Mountains

The Festivity of the Three Kings (January 6th) is a time of sharing and community in Bolivia. Participating in this activity at the very start of the year sets our compass for 2026. It reminds us that every tour we lead and every bike we maintain is part of a larger ecosystem.

Watching the children’s faces light up as they received their gifts was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. It wasn’t just about the items themselves, but about showing these local communities that they are seen, valued, and appreciated by the tourism industry.

“Our mission is to descend the mountains with safety, but our passion is to lift up the communities that live within them.”
